Tite Curet Alonso explained the lyric he wrote for Héctor Lavoe this way: everyone buys today's newspaper, nobody buys yesterday's. A column carries that sentence over it from the moment it is published, which is why it has to be written as though it will be read the day after tomorrow.
Ismael Rivera worked as a bricklayer and learned to sonear on the corners of Calle Calma. The corner was not his waiting room: it was his stage. The same happens here. Between 800 and 1,500 words, signed, on what the research leaves behind as it moves along its slow lane.
